Csaba Balogh was born in Budapest in 1987 and earned his Grandmaster title in 2004. One of Hungary's most accomplished chess figures, he has built a remarkable career spanning competitive play, coaching, writing, and publishing. He won the European Under-16 Championship in 2003, and was part of the Hungarian national team that claimed both the U-16 Chess Olympiad and the European U-18 Team Championship that same year. He was a member of the silver medal-winning Hungarian team at the 2014 Chess Olympiad, where he also earned individual silver on board two with a remarkable rating performance. He currently serves as trainer of the Hungarian National Team, bringing that same competitive expertise directly into the next generation of the country's chess talent.
Beyond the board, Balogh has established himself as one of the most prolific authors in modern chess literature. Through Chess Evolution, the publishing house he is associated with, he has produced an extensive series of tactics and training books, including the widely praised Greatest Puzzles series and co-authored works such as Positional Masterpieces of 2012–2015 with GM Arkadij Naiditsch, in which the authors analyze deep strategic ideas and subtle manoeuvres from top-level games, explaining concepts in words accessible to players of any level. His books are used by club players and titled players alike around the world.
This Sunday, IGM Balogh will give a live masterclass on positional decision making - how to read a position accurately, identify the right plan, coordinate your pieces, and make confident decisions under pressure. This is chess thinking at its core, taught by someone who has lived it at the highest level. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn directly from Csaba Balogh at KCF Academy!
